Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has been defined in many ways since the beginning of the 1960s. Although there is no consensus on a common definition, it is usually accepted that CSR is a multidimensional concept. This feature of concept is best captured by the approach of Archie B. Carroll. Carroll contributed a lot to the development of literature with proposing a CSR definition on a four-dimensional framework. Carroll’s framework, which is usually referred to as pyramid of CSR, includes economic, legal, ethical, and philanthropic components. According to this pyramidal framework, a firm should maximize its profit, obey the law, be ethical, and be a good corporate citizen, respectively.
